Biography

Asta was born in Lithuania to a Russian mother and a Lithuanian father. She moved to England in 1998 as a 14yr old and it was at this time that painting truly became her lifeline. Without being able to communicate in English she developed an intense relationship with her painting that survives to this day. For Asta painting is an exorcism, an intensely personal expression of her oblique vision of the world. Her paintings are journies into the psyche of her subjects and navigate a path through their internal narative and life story. Her work strips away the surface and reveals something more visceral, raw. They are moving, hypnotic, unsettling and truly unique.

Asta is a self taught painter. She trained and worked professionally as a writer until she took the decision in 2009 to focus entirely on her art. She exhibited at the Red Door gallery in 2006, at GO REBORN and Noir! In 2009 and has been working on a number of private commissions over the past year.
