Biography

Kevin Storrar was born in Birkenhead, Merseyside in 1980. He studied art at Wirral Metropolitan College, the University of Wales Aberystwyth, and then Lancaster University, where he gained an MA in painting.

The paintings deal with images the human form, and common themes revolve around visual concepts of sex and death, decay and fragility. Much of the source material for the initial drawings come from the media; the internet, magazines, newspapers, DVDs. Often imagery or compositions will change through the process of painting, have bits added or taken away. Paint stripper becomes central to the technique of working as layers are burnt away creating new abstract shapes and surfaces that are then sealed in varnish before a further layer is added over the top. Consequently the work deals with the deconstruction of emotionally charged imagery into abstract juxtapositions of tone and colour.
