Biography

Jillox is an Edinburgh based artist and has exhibited throughout England and Scotland and held her own One Woman Show in London. She originally trained as an abstract painter at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and has also worked in the sculpture world for many years.

“I love the technical processes of moulding and casting and employ these in my plaster sculptures. Each work has some cast elements and I attach them to make a new whole. Plaster as a medium is great for this as it is fast and reflects a bone-china-like fragility perfectly.These new works are about the worship of fragile Gods.”

Jillox' series of female portraits present bold images and strong colours in a Primitivist style. In her paintings, with their mask-like faces, we are reminded strongly of a child's joy of colour. Her "Hare Creature" successfully combines a feeling for primitive animal worship along with natural sculptural form in the image of a hare, an ancient symbol of female sexuality.
